How to Organize Job Search?

A situation should not arise wherein some circumstances force you to recognize that there are other job opportunities available after all pertaining to your line of activity, and you are forced to move quickly to search for a job in a haphazard manner. That is not how one should approach job search. It should be methodical, regular, and sustaining in efforts.
  1. You start to organize a job search by deciding first a locality that you're interested in. This is the basis on which to start job search. The reason may be the idea of proximity, convenience, time saving on travel, domestic reasons, etc. If you are particular on location, then that will be the starting point.

  2. Next, select the area of expertise that you are interested in, i.e., the category of job. It depends on your academic training and skills acquired. You have to know your suitability for the advertised job. You may have chosen some specialization in your line of expertise. That should reflect in your job search clearly. That highlighting of that specialization may actually fetch you a very decent job.

  3. Now, you have to decide your aspiring position in job hierarchy. Obviously, you opt for a higher position when searching for a new job. So, you have to find the generic name for that position. That "title" is your keyword for job search. You can take the help of Google, Yahoo, or job sites for your job search.

  4. After having clearly decided what job that you are looking for, now your job is to visit all possible job sites, job listings, classified ad sites, message boards, job forums, etc. The idea is to apply to as many relevant jobs as possible every day. This routine should continue everyday of the week, and every week without a break. Try and get RSS feeds for updated job vacancies.

  5. Social networking groups, professional networking forums, etc., are very good places on the net for latest information on available jobs. Be an active participant in such networking sites and get full benefit.

  6. You also have to concentrate on offline advertisements for jobs, like classified ads in trade magazines, classified ads in newspapers, notifications at trade offices, college notice boards, etc.

  7. Your resume and cover letter are the most important components of your job search efforts. Get your resume right by seeking advice from seniors, friends, other employed people, and resume writing articles.

  8. Do not foreclose your job options. In recessionary economic times like these, you have to be flexible with your job expectations. You can always choose closely related additional areas of interest and get your resumes done accordingly.
