It is like a directionless rocket which goes berserk. It will never reach its intended destination. A planned job search is like a railroad train that goes on rails effortlessly and reaches its destination. When you are looking for a suitable job, you should take note of the industry situation, the antecedents of the targeted company in that industry, the career prospects, the compensation norms, etc. Now, when you prepare to search for targeted jobs, you should also keep in focus on things like the position you are aspiring for, the strategies that you employ to approach employers, the amount of time that you set apart for targeted search every week, and on how you can maintain your edge over competition. Write down your detailed plan on paper, implement it, assess the impact and take corrective measures whenever necessary.

Your Bad Resume
This is the most common job search mistake that people commit. An unconvincing and ineffectual resume will wreck your chances of getting any decent job despite terrific planning and strategy. Your resume is your marketing tool, and if it hinders your chances, scrap it immediately. Sit down and rewrite your resume and cover letter again. Take online help or consult your seniors and fiends. You should have multiple resumes for multiple purposes.

Wrong Identity
If your resume does not reflect your actual capabilities and skill sets effectively, then you are lost. Inactive Job Seeking

Inadequate follow-up
Both inadequate following up and excessive follow-up are not advisable. You have to strike a correct balance between these two.

Deprived Attention
The focus should be on all aspects of job search simultaneously such as resumes, interview responses, search planning, and overall career path. You cannot afford to have attention on one aspect today and focus on another aspect tomorrow.

Poor Networking
The effect of proper and regular networking on your job prospects should be known to you. Poor networking or occasional networking will not help you at all.

Poor Financial Reserve
Sudden loss of job doesn't come announced. So, you should have enough financial resources to withstand delay in getting a proper job again. Otherwise, it will affect your job search badly.
