10 Job Search Mistakes You Should Avoid E-mail
Job Search MistakesEven after spending considerable time in search of job, many job aspirants fail to get jobs because of poor planning. This happens despite best efforts on the part of job seekers. They commit some common job search mistakes which could easily have been avoided with proper approach and planning. The following are some of the job search mistakes that could be avoided:

Lack of Overall Approach to Career
An individual's career should be approached in an integral manner, instead of resorting to piecemeal approach. To sustain a rewarding and enduring career, one must get their basics right. Your career is not built when you apply for some odd job and work for sometime and then switch to some other odd job. There is no career in it. Quick-fixes only prolong your directionless journey. Job search should involve some planning about future. The job you are searching for should meet your aspirations and efforts that you have put over the years. The bedrock of your career should be placed properly in the sense that your initiation into career should represent your academic training, your aspirations, and your capabilities. Your job search should reflect continuity and should be your stepping stone to overall successful career.

Inadequate Planning

It is like a directionless rocket which goes berserk. It will never reach its intended destination. A planned job search is like a railroad train that goes on rails effortlessly and reaches its destination. When you are looking for a suitable job, you should take note of the industry situation, the antecedents of the targeted company in that industry, the career prospects, the compensation norms, etc. Now, when you prepare to search for targeted jobs, you should also keep in focus on things like the position you are aspiring for, the strategies that you employ to approach employers, the amount of time that you set apart for targeted search every week, and on how you can maintain your edge over competition. Write down your detailed plan on paper, implement it, assess the impact and take corrective measures whenever necessary.

Your Bad Resume
This is the most common job search mistake that people commit. An unconvincing and ineffectual resume will wreck your chances of getting any decent job despite terrific planning and strategy. Your resume is your marketing tool, and if it hinders your chances, scrap it immediately. Sit down and rewrite your resume and cover letter again. Take online help or consult your seniors and fiends. You should have multiple resumes for multiple purposes.

Wrong Identity
If your resume does not reflect your actual capabilities and skill sets effectively, then you are lost. Your resume should have mention of your proper training, past experiences and accomplishments, skills, and your suitability. In other words, you have to establish your proper identity. Only then can you expect positive results.

Inactive Job Seeking
Pro forma job hunting with routine and casual applications at job boards and passive responses to help wanted ads will not take you anywhere on job front. Million others will do the same. If you want success, become an active job hunter. Call employers, or write to them, and keep in regular touch with them with regular communication. You should also use networking contacts to remain active on job front.

Not too Many Applications
The chances of job success will increase manifold when you apply for many number of jobs everyday, instead of applying for a couple of jobs every week. Have your resumes on different job boards at a time. If you call one employer today, make calls to two different employers tomorrow, and increase your contacts everyday aggressively.

Inadequate follow-up
Both inadequate following up and excessive follow-up are not advisable. You have to strike a correct balance between these two.

Deprived Attention
The focus should be on all aspects of job search simultaneously such as resumes, interview responses, search planning, and overall career path. You cannot afford to have attention on one aspect today and focus on another aspect tomorrow.

Poor Networking
The effect of proper and regular networking on your job prospects should be known to you. Poor networking or occasional networking will not help you at all.

Poor Financial Reserve
Sudden loss of job doesn't come announced. So, you should have enough financial resources to withstand delay in getting a proper job again. Otherwise, it will affect your job search badly.
