To be less stressed but more productive at the same time are possibly achieved if we consider applying effective time management with our everyday activities, especially at work. Everyday, we are surrounded with different kind of tasks or projects that need to be completed. Sometimes we feel that we haven't done anything productive despite being seemingly busy the whole day, thus, letting ourselves get stressed out more just to accomplish each task at hand. In the process, we oftentimes forget that this could also be affecting our personal life as well as our health.

Considering these time management techniques or time management strategies and applying it in your everyday work routine could be your answer to a stress-free and a fruitful quality of living. Here are the tips for time management that you can try for your problems on how to manage time effectively.

  1. Write down your daily plans and prioritize your tasks for the day. Jot everything you need to accomplish for the day on a to-do list. Always make sure to keep a schedule for your daily activities to do away with conflicting schedules and last-minute tasks. Prioritize the most important tasks and putting it on the top of your list; the least important once are placed on the last.

  2. Learn to delegate tasks and say no to unnecessary activities. Before considering taking up additional workload, try to check if your goals have already been met. If not, then learn to dismiss any work you think is unnecessary. Whenever there's a need, do not hesitate on delegating tasks to someone else instead of owing all the tasks that you won't be able to handle all by yourself.

  3. Breakdown big tasks into smaller ones and try practicing the ten minute rule. In order for you to avoid being overwhelmed by the complexities of your tasks, breakdown large tasks into smaller ones. For very difficult and complex tasks, render at least 10 minutes of your time each day to accomplish them little by little. In finding the time to start on it, a bigger possibility of finishing the tasks might very well be achievable.

  4. Take the time that you need to deliver the best quality output. Performing your work right the first time might require a longer time for you to finish; although it is better than having to repeat the process all over again because of the mistakes you executed in doing the job quickly.

  5. Assess on how you spend your time and limit your distractions. Try to determine how you spend your day by keeping a record of your activities for at least three days. From there, try to assess if there are task which you can just combine together to free some of your time and use it on other activities also beneficial to you; like more time for personal stuff. As much as possible, try to limit distractions during working hours. This will allow you to gain more concentration on the tasks at hand and finish them the soonest time possible.

  6. Obtain a time management course. Some employers provide their employees with continuing education. If your employer is one of these, then take advantage of obtaining a time management course to help you further with improving your time management skills. Look for this type of courses in your local community programs, local colleges or universities if your company does not offer such courses.

  7. Live healthy and take the time off when needed. It's also important for you to live a healthy lifestyle like getting enough sleep, exercise and maintain a healthy diet. Doing so would allow you to improve your concentration and focus on work, making you more efficient and alert in delivering your tasks each time. If you feel disorganized or unfocused because of tensions at work, take a break once in a while; do stretches or take a walk if you need a breather. If the stress is too much for you, you might need to take the time off from work in order to rejuvenate and be recharged.
