Nevertheless, when you resign your employment you are simply quitting your job and nothing more. Drama is almost always a sure fire way to burn a bridge versus amicably transitioning yourself to another position. Leaving behind nothing more than positive and cordial feelings might not accurately depict what you feel, but you never know when you might need a job from someone you have alienated. Quitting a job well usually means that you can at least get some references or even be rehired if the need arises.

There are at least 25 good reasons for quitting, job markets tend to be fickle and you have to strike toward advancement whenever possible. If you feel strongly that you have reasons, quit, job seek to find the right match, and set new professional goals for yourself.
  1. You are not able to make ends meet on your current salary. This can often be handled by finding a job that pays only 2 to 3% more than your current job.

  2. Remember that the only person you have to justify your decision to is you. In a flimsy economy the prospects for a better job with a company that is built to withstand the roller coaster we fondly refer to as the economic crisis.

  3. Long commutes often eat up more in gas and wear and tear on the car than they are worth. The extra time away from your family and the eventual costs should be evaluated. A shorter commute is always in your best interest.

  4. Poor management and poor company policies are two of the top good reasons for quitting, job strain with a difficult management team can be absolutely unbearable. When your morals are divided with management morality, you may find yourself in a lose-lose situation if you don't move on.

  5. Not all management is going to present the consumer or the employees with facts. As the world becomes more aware of environmental concerns, economic recovery, and the potential for developing a green market product or service there are plenty of unscrupulous managers willing to fill the need with shoddy attempts to fill the green market.

  13. Sometimes the pay is good but the benefits are seriously lacking. Another job that offers the same or even slightly lower pay with better benefits could be in your long term best interest.

  14. Let's face it. Sometimes you provide your own reasons for quitting your job. Poor job performance, unprofessional behavior, and a lackadaisical attitude regarding showing up on time can give you a rather unpleasant reputation around the company. Once you have branded yourself through the display of unsatisfactory behaviors it is very difficult for anyone within the company to disregard your reputation. This can mean the loss of promotions, raises, and of course, eventual dismissal. Finding a new job before you are released for your unflattering behaviors is most likely in your best interest. Remember that a chance to start fresh is a chance to make the changes you want to see within yourself.

  15. The same can be said about your relationships with your colleagues and your superiors. It is not always easy to get along with a number of different people, but not making friends and playing nicely is no reason to walk out on an income. However, if you have behaved poorly toward your colleagues, your superiors, or both you probably have many reasons for quitting job and it is probably in your best interest to do so.

  16. While you should never quit a job on the spur of the moment and should always have another job lined up before you puff out your chest and leave, be sure you know the difference between a burned opportunity and a few days of discomfort while emotions settle down. 17. When a job is inhibiting your health. If you are experiencing physical difficulties it is time to realize that you have ample reason. Quit. Job stress that creates that much difficulty, places you in the unfortunate situation of having to undermine your own values.

  18. Emotional problems that stem from your job should also be taken into consideration. Emotional stress is just as damaging as physical stress and should be taken seriously.

  19. If you are experiencing well covered but obvious harassment from management or coworkers is job stress that is asking you to demean your own integrity. Harassment of any sort is illegal in the work place, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

  21. We spend at the very least 40 hours of our week at work. Most of us spend more than that, including travel time and day care stops. While there are very few jobs that are going to make you smile and sing in your heart on a daily basis, no one should hate their job. There is a difference between hating your job and hating the idea of working for a living. If your job is really that miserable that you can barely drag yourself out of bed, smile, or even appreciate the paycheck then perhaps you should evaluate whether or not you have reasons for quitting job. At the very least you should be able to tolerate what you do for a living and at least enjoy the scenery or the people or one aspect of your job that makes it fun. At best, you love what you do for a living. Hating your job and watching your deterioration from that reality happen over time can be heart breaking. Find a job that is more fun.

  22. Maybe you're just ready to start your own business and the job you have now is holding you back from your goals.
